The Problem: Asphalt Shingles Lose Their Oils
Asphalt shingles aren't just rock and tar. The asphalt core contains oils — specifically, maltenes — that keep the material flexible, waterproof, and UV-resistant. Those oils are what give a new shingle its durability.
The problem is they evaporate. UV radiation accelerates the process. Heat cycles it. Over 8–12 years, a significant portion of those oils are gone. What's left is a dry, brittle asphalt matrix that cracks, sheds granules, and loses its ability to repel water.
Traditional roofing logic says: once this happens, replace the shingles. That means tearing off thousands of pounds of material, sending it to a landfill, and spending $10,000–$18,000 on new shingles that will start the same degradation process over again.
The Solution: Replace the Lost Oils
GreenSoy™ Technology takes a different approach. Instead of coating the surface of the shingle, it penetrates into the asphalt and replenishes the maltenes — the same oils that were lost over time.
The formula is derived from soybean oil, making it 96% USDA certified biobased. It was developed and tested at Iowa State University, where researchers validated that the treatment could measurably restore shingle flexibility, granule adhesion, and UV resistance.
The result: Shingles that behave more like they did when new. Measured results show extended shingle life of 6–10 years in independent testing, with 1-year follow-up studies confirming durability.

Is It Safe?

Application requires a dry roof and temperatures above 50°F. The product cures within 24 hours. Most residential jobs are completed in about an hour with our 3-person crew.
What It Treats
GreenSoy™ Technology is specifically formulated for asphalt shingles. For flat roofs (modified bitumen, rolled composition), we use elastomeric and silicone coatings — a different product category that's equally effective for flat roof applications.
